A new 11.7 inch OLED panel by Sony

An 11.7 inch Top Emission OLED panel has been developed by Sony.

It has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and uses oxide semiconductor TFTs as its driver elements. Sony claims to make this new OLED better than its predecessor, the XEL-1. Not only will the new 11. 7 inch OLED have better and brighter colors, but it will also have a lifetime of more than 10 years.

The peak brightness of the 11.7 inch OLED is 600 cd/2 and more. It has 100 percent or more color gamut vs NTSC and contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 or more.

When the property degradation of the oxide semiconductor TFT was reduced, the improvements in the panel were achieved. The company made three improvisations.

The new Ti/Al/Mo structure has replaced the commonly used Ti/Al/Ti structure to prevent the oxidation of the electrode. SiNx or SiOx has been replaced by Al2O3 for the passivation film. Lastly, TFT structure is applied where the IGZO is totally covered by the passivation film.
