155 inch OLED TV by Mitsubishi at the CEATEC show

A prototype of the 155 inch OLED TV was presented by Mitsubishi at the 2009 CEATEC in Japan.

The 155 inch OLED screen consists of 720 smaller OLED panels of 10 centimeters each. This huge OLED TV is said to be up to three times brighter than a LCD TV. The brightness of OLED TVs is attributed to its capacity of producing its own light due to the passage of electrical charge through it.

Images are sharper than any LCD or plasma TV. However, the only downside to OLED TVs is its cost and limited life of approximately 20,000 hours.

The launch of the 155 inch prototype does not indicate the arrival of affordable OLED TVs in the market.

The only OLED TV that comes close to affordability is Sony’s 11 inch XEL-1 with a price tag of £3,489. Other OLED like LG and Samsung have also joined the OLED TV bandwagon as the technology is very promising.
