By 2015 OLED TV revenue to touch $1.8 billion

There has been a recent upsurge in the production of OLED panels. But it might not be a successful product when launched commercially because of its exorbitant price.

The revenue collected from OLED shipment in 2009 is $10 million. It is estimated that the shipment revenue of OLED TVs worldwide will amount to $1.8 billion by 2015. Televisions will become the greatest revenue generating application of the OLED technology.

The shipment revenue of OLED TVs has surpassed that of mobile phones. Although OLED TVs are lesser in number than mobile phones, the larger size and the consequent high price accounts for the greater revenue generated.

In spite of the increase in production of OLED TVs, it has not been able to come close to the number of LCD TVs shipped per year. The number of LCD TV units shipped till 2013 is estimated to be around 231.6 million, while that of OLED TVs units is 850,000.
