30-inch OLED TV to be Launched by Toshiba in 2009

It has recently been revealed by Toshiba Corp. that an OLED TV will be launched this year.

The PR dertment of Toshiba has confirmed the screen size to be 30 inches. This has been announced by Atsutoshi Nishida, the President and CEO of Toshiba, on 12th April during a management policy meeting.

The company was previously supposed to manufacture the organic EL (electroluminescence) TV by 2016. He also said that they are planning on making OLED TVs larger than the once produced by Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology Co. Ltd. (TMD). TMD had announced the launch of their 21 inch OLED TV on 9th April.

When the organic EL TVs will be in production and the price has not been revealed yet. Nishida is of the opinion that OLED TVs might not be able to give tough competition to LCD TVs initially, but will the demand will increase after its brilliant picture quality is recognized.
