40 inch LG OLED to be launched in 2012

LG

LG unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming years at the FPD International held at Japan recently.

As pointed out by LG Display OLED Sales and Marketing Vice President, Won Kim, remarked that OLED TVs of larger sizes will be launched in the following years.

A 20-inch OLED TV will be produced in 2010 and 2011 and will witness the launch of a 30-inch OLED TV. The largest of them all be a 40 inch OLED TV, hitting the shelves in 2012.

With the increasing popularity of OLED TVs, its price is expected to be a tad bit lesser than LCD TVs. By 2016 the price of OLED TVs will fall below that of LCD TVs.

However, there are a few hurdles in the way of producing large OLED TVs like the sealing process, the driver elements and the film forming process. LG claims that 2016 will see OLED TVs being sold at 20% to 30% cheaper rate than LCD TVs.
