There has been an interesting invention in the medical field.
IV drop counters are an indispensable part of life for many patients. However, for those patients that use IV drop counters on their own, there have often been cases of overdose or under-dose. Now, a group of 6th graders have invented an automated IV drop counter that can completely eliminate these errors.
These 6th graders are from Tucson, Arizona and they have used an OLED display on their device. This device, which costs only $1.50, is far cheaper than a normal infusion pump that costs in the region of $5,000. The inventors have also applied for a patent on the design of this new device.
While the whole world has been talking about using OLED in smartphones and TVs, this is a completely new facet of this technology that has come into the picture. We may soon see other uses of OLED cropping up.
