Samsung firmly believes that OLED TVs are the TVs of the future.
As per Samsung, OLED technology will be the dominant technology by 2015 and they will be the ultimate active shutter 3D TVs. For the mass production of OLED TVs, Samsung plans to use the 8th Generation production line.
The 8th Generation production line uses 2200mm x 2500mm sheet size for production. Although no date has been announced it is generally believed that this will happen within the next two years when some of the present technical issues are resolved.
For now, Samsung plans to produce low temperature poly-Si TFTs using Excimer Laser Annealing. in their upcoming 5.5 Generation plant. However, TFTS produced with this technology show variations in features and the method may not be suitable in the long run.
Other technologies that Samsung is working on include better ELA technology, Super Grain Silicon and Sequential Lateral Solidification. Samsung is also working on producing oxide semiconductor TFTs.
