AMOLED panels in the years to come

AMOLED, an acronym for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode is one of the rapidly growing technologies.

It is predicted that the AMOLED market will grow to a whooping US$4.6 billion in the next four years. The AMOLED market is expected to grow from US$67 million of 2007.

The number of AMOLED units shipped in 2007 was 2.6 million and it will rise up to 185.2 million units. The compound annual growth rate of about 84.2 percent is expected to happen by iSuppli Corp.

The pixels in an AMOLED panel are defined by the dot pattern in which the organic material is deposited. AMOLED pixels turn on and turn off three times faster than a regular motion picture film.

Consequently, the image quality of AMOLED panels is more suited for full motion videos. AMOLED screens can be seen in both bright and dark surroundings owing to high visibility.
