AUO’s plans of mass producing OLED screens

The CEO of AU Optronics, L. J. Chen, has confirmed that the company will mass produce OLED screens from 2011.

The company plans to produce small and medium sized OLED displays by using the 3.5G LTPS concept. AUO had presented a preview of the line of OLED screens at the FPD 2009 with the 14 inch OLED Monitor.

The company will use a-Si technology for manufacturing the OLED displays. As stated by the General Manager of consumer product display business group and Vice President of AUO, CT Liu, the fourth quarter of this year will see AUO commercializing the small sized OLED screens.

The company will concentrate on developing the OLED technology as these panels have lower rate of power consumption, higher contract ratio and sharper image than the LCD displays. With the advancement of the OLED technology, the cost of production will decrease, making them more affordable than the LCD TVs.
