In an interview, Jim Flaws, Chief Financial Officer of Corning, revealed that his company is soon planning to produce glass for large sized OLED panels.
The market for the glass should be good because we know that LG is planning a 55 inch OLED TV to be released in 2012 and Samsung Mobile Display also has their sights set on large sized OLED panels.
As of now, OLED TVs are produced using two glass sheets but there are manufacturers that are planning to move to a structure with one sheet of glass. Corning has its plans to be ready for both the structures. It is quite evident that this one sheet of glass will be a higher performance sheet.
Corning is an American company that produces ceramics, glass and related products. Corning is most well known for its Corelle and CorningWare tableware and Pyrex cookware. Corning also spends about 10% of their revenue on R&D.
