DisplaySearch reveals the future of display market

The last one year has witnessed sea change in the display market.

According to the latest survey of DisplaySearch, the shipment of TVs had a two percent rise and amounted to almost 211 million units. LCD TVs alone accounted for 146 million units, making it occupy 75 percent of the total number of TVs shipped. As quoted by Paul Semenza, Senior Vice President of DisplaySearch, CRTs amounted for 18 percent while Plasma TVs for only 7 percent of the total number.

LED backlighting was only an advanced feature in the televisions. This changed last year as a growing number of TVs have incorporated this feature. A recent report by DisplaySearch says that by the next year the cost difference between the conventional fluorescent backlighting and the LED backlit 40 inch TVs will be as low as $50. Currently the different in cost is $64, while a quarter back it was $91.

LED backlights are being extensively used in notebooks. Smartphones and TVs are using the OLED technology. And, with the economies around the world gaining back its foothold demand for OLEDs to go up in coming three years.
