DuPont plans to launch cheaper OLEDs when compared to LCDs

It was way back in May 2010 that DuPont had announced that they will take only 2 minutes to print a 50 inch OLED TV.

This could be achieved using their new printable OLED materials and the custom made printer from Dai Nippon Screen Manufacturing Company. Now we have come to know that DuPont estimates that their new OLED panels will be cheaper by as much as 40% when compared to the cost of an LCD TV.

And we all know that OLED TV manufacturing cost is twice that of LCD manufacturing cost at the present moment.

For this new manufacturing process DuPont uses a continuous stream of ink that moves over a surface @ 4-5 m/s and patterns a display. With a common pixel structure for each pixel DuPont is not optimizing each pixel but the result is faster throughput. The updated materials from DuPont include blue with 37,000 hours, red with 41,000 hours and green with 500,00 hours lifetime.
