An extremely efficient fluorescent blue OLED has been developed by the engineering researchers at the University of Michigan.
This was accomplished by redesigning a material that was utilized by U-M collaborators in Singapore that used computer simulations. The researching team believes that the results clearly indicate that fluorescent materials have a bright future in the OLED flat panel displays and lighting applications.
OLEDs will be highly stabilized and their efficiency will be improved using fluorescent materials.
The team took the molecules of the material and reconfigured them in a computer model. Functional groups were added in a systematic way. Mechanisms to control the performance of OLEDs were identified and finally, the fundamental understanding was applied to improve the characteristics of the material.
The research demonstrated the importance of situation based predictive design.
The name of the paper for this particular work is titled Achieving Highly Efficient Fluorescent Blue Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Through Optimizing Molecular Structures and Device Configuration.
