Fraunhofer IPMS ready to show its bidirectional microdisplay

Fraunhofer IPMS has been working on the integration of sensors and microdisplays on CMOS backplane for a long time now.

Now, in association with Comedd, Fraunhofer IPMS will show a bidirectional microdisplay for head mounted displays at SID-2011. SID-2011 will be held from May 17th to 19th and Los Angeles.
The demonstrator that will be presented for the first time at SID-2011 has the technical specifications of monochrome, bidirectional microdisplay based special eyetracking algorithm for HMDs and a front brightness of more than 1,500 cd/m2.
The chip used in the bidirectional microdisplay contains an active OLED matrix and integrated photodetectors. The combination of these two in a single chip makes it possible for system integrators to design lightweight, portable and smaller systems with dual functionalities.

The OLED microdisplay based eyetracking HMD enables users to overlay the view of the real world with virtual contents as well as select the next video using only gaze.
