The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has awarded a grant to Merck KGaA, Braunschweig University of Technology and Applied Materials Inc.

This has been done to encourage the production of low cost OLED lighting. It will be a three year long project headed by Applied Materials Inc. in association with Merck and Braunschweig.

While Merck is one of the best manufacturers of OLED panels, Braunschweig University of Technology is an internationally reputed OLED research centre. They have named the project the Light InLine or LILi and will be based in Applied Materials in Alzenau.

The Vice president of Merck KGaA has remarked that the LILi project is a great chance for them to experiment the organic light emitting diode in the latest and most advanced equipments. OLED television manufacturers should have high hopes on these types of research.

This will testify the performance level of the OLED panels on large scale substrates. The three organizations will use their experience and expertise in their respective fields to make the project successful.
