The new green TV steals the limelight

LG-15_oled-tv1In keeping with the latest trend of going green, the television market has produced the new green TV.

While the regular TVs are still being sold, the green TV is available at a premium. Some TV manufacturers have managed to reduce the brightness up to 20 percent with an “eco mode” button.

Others have used the OLED technology to pull down the consumption of power and optical sensors that will automatically switch off the video if there are no viewers in the room. But the question is how much are we saving by using the green TVs?

The answer has been given by an Israeli newspaper. OLED TVs consume half the energy used by the regular LCD TVs. The amount of energy saved can be higher if plasma TVs replace the regular LCD TVs.

Panasonic has launched a new 50 inch plasma TV using the neoPDP technology. This makes the TV consume just 269 W/h instead of 555 W/h. Consumers can expect more energy saving along with brighter pictures once OLED TVs become more affordable.
