Hitachi roadmap shows OLED TVs by 2010-2012

With most companies unveiling their roadmaps, Hitachi too has announced its roadmap on OLED TV production.

According to their Ultrathin TV roadmap, there is a possibility for Hitachi to manufacture OLED panels by 2010-2012. In its new line of ultrathin TVs, Hitachi plans to launch a 35 mm thick PDP TV this year and a 10mm thick TV between 2010 and 2012.

According to the statement released by the company, the OLED panels are likely to be used in the ultra thin TVs. Hitachi plans to “commercialize” OLED TVs in the next three years.

With the recent launch of ultrathin PDP TVs, Hitachi has established that it capable of making slimmer PDP TVs than LCD TVs. PDPs do not require backlights and can do with circuits and a single panel. The thickness of OLED TVs has been restricted to 15mm.
