How Kodak Created OLED Technology

Kodak has played a pivotal role in the research and development of OLED technology. Any OLED TVs in production are created under license from Kodak.

Kodak Created OLED Technology

Recently, Kodak introduced world first hundred percent NTSC OLED display. This 8 inch panel in fact demonstrated 1.7mm thickness, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m peak luminance and 100 percent NTSC colour gamut.

Kodak believes that its scalable OLED technology, merged with manufacturing solutions such as GMC or Global Mura Compensation Technology and VIST or Kodak Vapour Injection Source Technology, are the lanes to low cost manufacturing of several OLED Televisions. These latest technologies are even applicable to power efficient lights.

Kodak initially discovered raw materials which flamed in reply to the electrical currents in the year 1970. Since then they have established industry standards with OLED technology and patented discoveries. Kodak’s raw materials discovery addresses synthesis and molecular design of certain raw materials for their physical and chemical properties. This physical chemistry usually helps to recognize how changes their properties and how chemical reacts their behaviours. Ultimately, raw materials estimations decide what happens when molecules act together.

It was in the year 1970, Dr Ching Tang one of the scientist of Kodak discovered an electrical current via a carbon compound that cause these raw materials to glow. However, in the year 1987, Dr Tang along with Steven Van Slyke discovered OLED materials which became the base for OLED displays that are being produce today. Green was the first colour that was discovered in the research of OLED. Since then, Kodak has enhanced its brightness and purity of the colour. Due to this improvement you can see vibrant colours in the 3rd generation OLED materials.
