The news is now officially out that HTC, for some phone models, switches from AMOLED to S-LCD (a product of Sony).
One of the main reasons for this is that Samsung has been unable to handle the demand for the former. HTC has announced that S-LCS consumes lesser power than AMOLED while offering a comparable display.
There was a comparison done between all the display technologies. The phones compared were Samsung Wave with Super-AMOLED, Google Nexus One with AMOLED, HTC Desire with S-LCD and Milestone with LCD.
The verdict is that the Super-AMOLED of Samsung Wave reflects noticeably less while offering a wider viewing angle and better contrast. Super LCD of HTC Desire offers the same benefits in the rock face video and definitely offers a better horizontal viewing angle than AMOLED of Google Nexus One. On the other hand, Google Nexus One displays a better contrast than S-LCD of HTC Desire.
