INCJ may be joined by Hitachi now


The Japanese government has been planning to create a national manufacturer of small and medium LCDs and OLED displays for the Tablet, PC and smartphone market.

As per the people familiar with the matter, Hitachi has now joined talks with Sony and Toshiba about merging their non-TV display businesses.

The new company will be owned through majority shareholding by a government backed investment fund will become the world’s largest producer of touchscreen LCDs. The company together created by Sony and Toshiba is called INCJ will be able to double its investment to 2.5 billion dollars if Hitachi decides to join it. The extra investment generated will be used to expand the production line for creating LCDs and OLED displays.

In the meanwhile, Sony has its plans in place to launch the next generation PlayStation portable named PS-Vita. This new generation PlayStation will come equipped with a 5 inch OLED display.
