Kodak has developed a “green” dopant-based OLED material that will allow use of less power.
The display will be in full color and it can be used for longer duration without affecting the quality of video output. This is as a result of the OLED research for display already going on for some time in Kodak.
This new material is called Kodak OLED material EK-GD403. The material uses environment friendly dopant technique. When this is used with Kodak OLED material EK-BH109, it produces low volts green OLED lights with a luminous efficiency greater than 31 cd/A. This can be used for 65,000 hours without interruption, which is simply amazing.
Apart from OLED display this green dopant material can be used for solid state lighting applications as well. OLED televisions can now use even lesser power and can have really longer life. Researchers have already started working with this material to utilize it in OLED televisions. This would substantially cut down the production cost of OLED televisions.
Kodak wants to continue the research with OLED technology. Kodak OLED displays could be used in digital photo frames, computer display units, and mobile phone screens other than televisions.
