OLED technology is being delayed to promote LCDs. It is anticipated that OLEDs will not be as popular as the LCDs inspite of advantages.
OLED displays are still not being manufactured on a large scale irrespective of it being superior to LCDs. Companies like Samsung, AUO, and CMO are making portable devices and cell phone displays with OLED. But production of large OLED TVs has not been in full swing.
Initially OLED technology could not be relied, but the issue was resorted out later. AMOLED employs crystallization or laser annealing very often. However, this technology has not been successful when used with large OLED displays.
Manufacturers are trying to overcome this problem by working on the temperature of polysillicon. Small OLED display surfaces show minute disturbances.
Although, it was considered that OLEDs consume less power as compared to LCDs in some cases OLEDs consume more power of the backlight power. All these issues can be solved with greater investment and research. After all OLED is a much more sophisticated viewing technology that produces better results than LCD or any other existing image producing technologies.
