It now looks quite apparent that Apple is looking to introduce the OLED technology in their future products because they have now applied for three OLED patents.
We will have to wait and see Apple’s moves in the future.
One of the products that could use this technology could well be iPad 3 because the first patent is for a handheld device or a tablet. However, the OLED technology that will be used by Apple is not going to be limited to tablets only. The technology could also be used in other devices like the MacBook, iPod and iPhone.
Apple Patent 20100321305 is about driving an OLED display structure integrated with a touch sensor configuration. Apple Patent 20100265187 is about a new invention that relates to signal routing for OLED structures including a touch actuated sensor configuration. Apple Patent 20100265188 is related to the integration of a touch actuated sensor configuration using an OLED structure.
