As per him, OLED technology allows better 3D TV and that is part of the reason that they take a major share of the premium TV and smartphone markets. They have lighter displays and are brighter and faster.
As per him, Samsung is now ramping up its G4.5 OLED fabrication line and it will be production ready by 2012. Mr. Kim also said that OLEDs will reach 600 million units by 2015 that is 53% of the market. He predicted that the number could even reach as high as 1 billion units.
Barry Young, MD OLED Association, was also bullish about the technology. He also noted the need for cost effectiveness for scaling the technology to G8. Mr. Young also said that apart from other manufacturers, LG is also looking at a Gen 5.5 OLED Display.
