OLED in Healthcare

We all know that OLED is the new buzzword in display technology and is slated to soon make LCDs and Plasmas a thing of the past.

What some of us don’t know is that OLED display is being used as a cure for cancer. There has been a lot of research done on this in the United Kingdom and Lumicare has incorporated the findings into their research and development to use OLED display as a healthcare product. Last heard, there has been a lot of progress done in this field.

Following suit, a second UK company, Polymertronics, is trying to do something similar. The company is working on OLED-light-plasters to be used in photodynamic therapy.

This is used to apply light sensitive drugs that can be activated in the presence of red light. The drugs are aimed at destroying skin tumours. Testing on humans will start in a matter of days. Polymertronics hopes to commercially launch the product in approximately two years.
