The 1st generation of handled devices which make use of OLED display technology are already on the store shelves. There are also many more on the way.
The basic advantage of using this new-fangled OLED screen is clear, bright, vivid and colourful images. Even the smallest OLED screens refresh faster. Hence, they’re generally better with respect to displaying video. The finest OLED displays have the capacity to display almost 4 times as many colours compared to LCDs of equivalent size.
The difference in image quality of small OLED screens is clear. When people see an actual screen the difference in terms of bright colour, contrast, and phenomenal angle of viewing, usually blows them away.
Unlike LCDs, Organic Light Emitting Diodes go on to emit light of their own in the form of a phenomenon called ‘electroluminescence’. Consequently, OLED televisions and screens appear brighter as well as sharper in comparison with LCDs, in spite of viewing at wide angles.

However, the cost of producing a small OLED screen is still much higher than producing an LCD screen. We won’t see widespread adoption of small OLED screens for a while yet.
Industry forecasts predict that by the year 2010, factories will be churning out around 289 million OLED screens every year. It is estimated that around 88% of all these will be used in mobile phones.
