In an interview with the technical adviser of Canon, Mr. Chuck Westfall, it was revealed that Canon cannot rely on the OLEDs manufactured by other companies for their products.
The low power consumption and exceptional image quality has indeed made OLEDs very tempting. With 30 million cameras being manufactured every year, Canon wants to produce their own OLED panels.
Canon Inc. disclosed that their decision to manufacture OLED displays stems from their plan to produce in-house key parts and cut down on procurement costs. Fujio Mitarai, the president of Canon, said that the company plans to utilize OLED displays in printers, digital cameras, and camcorders instead of LCDs.
However, Canon OLED displays will be exclusively used for Canon products and will not be sold to other companies. OLED will give a new dimension to the consumer products of Canon. Known for better color accuracy and awesome brightness and contrast, the OLED panels are set to adorn all Canon products.
