The group ads that the superior quality of OLED televisions compared to current flat screens is clear. The only issue is the ability to mass produce OLED screens at an affordable cost.

However, iSupply is confident that OLED sales will rise sharply over the next few years but will remain tiny compared to LCD/Plasma sales. iSupply says 2.7 million OLED units were sold in 2007 representing a value of around $67 million.

2014 is expected to be a much healthier time for OLED products. iSupply’s forecasts translate to a growth rate of around 84% each year — the OLED market will be worth $4.6 billion.

The recent launch of the Sony XEL-1 OLED TV went down well with industry experts as well as consumers, who were literally amazed by the size and quality of the product.

Panasonic has also announced plans to produce a 40inch OLED television by 2011. Japan and China have both announced their support for the OLED industry too.
