OLED TVs are 30% More Energy Efficient Than LCDs

sony-oledOLED TVs are highly energy efficient. But as the LCDs and the Plasmas are still ruling the roost, the OLED TVs must be much more efficient than the existing LCDs and Plasma TVs.

In order to find out how much more energy efficient an OLED TV will be than any LCD or Plasma, an interesting attempt has been made by Display Daily.

It is assumed that any OLED TV will consume 30% less power than any ordinary LCD TV. But the latest LCDs use the advanced LAD (Local Area Dimming) technology enabling the TV to use lesser energy. And the latest LCD TVs also achieve improved contrast ratio and the ultimate black.

Though the Display Daily’s calculation is purely a hypothesis as at present, the market does not have either any large OLED TV or the LCDs with LAD, the calculation still shows the OLED TV to consume 30% less power than the most advanced LCDs.
