Panasonic Plans to Release 40inch OLED TV by 2011

Panasonic is the world’s biggest maker of consumer electronics and is planning to start selling 40inch OLED televisions by early 2011.

As readers of OnlyOled.co.uk will know, OLED is viewed as a most promising technology for the next generation of televisions as it offers with a high quality image as compared to plasma panels or even LCDs.

Panasonic is investing several dozens of billion of yen in OLED televisions, the company is planning to start by building a prototype production line for 20inch and bigger OLED panels. Panasonic is also planning to double up the personnel which are involved in the development of big screen OLED TVs to about 200.

Panasonic then plans to set up an OLED television panel mass production line at an existing LCD panel plant in Himeji, Japan. The production line is expected to start manufacturing 40inch OLED screens in early months of 2011.

The total investment in the 40inch OLED panel production plant has been estimated at somewhere around 100 billion yen. With the Japanese government investing in OLED companies too, there is no doubt that Japan will lead the way in the production of OLED TVs.

    Great news from Panasonic. Having that government fund has got to help the manufacturers.
