Samsung has announced the start of mass production of its 22 inch transparent LCD panels in March.
They are, however, not losing their interest in OLED as it is going to be their future thrust area.
One can now see online images of this new LCD panel. Compared to the typical LCD panels, these panels by Samsung have the best transparency rate in the world at over 20% for black & white and over 15% for colored panels. The transparency allows users to look through the panels like glass.
The power consumption is 90% less than conventional panels because these panels use ambient light like sunlight. This reduces their dependency on electricity. These panels also incorporate HDMI and USB interfaces.
Displaybank, a market research company has now announced a report on transparent displays and the report suggests that the market will grow to $87.2 billion by 2025.
The present LCD transparent panels are both in color and black & white. The contrast ratio for these panels is 500:1 with a resolution of 1680×1050 WSXGA+.
