Samsung Electronics has now developed its first full color display using the Quantom Dots or QLED technology.
With the use of QLED technology, Samsung believes it can produce displays that are less costly, more energy efficient and brighter.
The new four inch diagonal display from Samsung uses the active matrix for control. What this means is that each of its color quantum dot pixels can be turned on and off using a thin film transistor.
As per Tae Ho Kim from Samsung, the new display products using the QLED technology will consume only about a fifth or tenth of the power consumed by LCDs.
This is not all because this new QLED technology promises to produce displays that are not only brighter than OLED displays but will also have a bigger lifespan. As for the manufacturing cost, it has been estimated that QLED displays can be produced at half the production cost of LCDs and OLEDs.
