Samsung Double’s The Amoled’s Efficiency, Electricity Consumption and Lifetime

Samsung has planned to double the efficiency of their AMOLEDs.

They claim to have doubled the efficiency from 20cd/A-40cd/A, the consumption of power from 62 watts to 30 watts, and the lifespan from50,000-100,000 hrs. Advanced patterns of colors shall be used to beat the present large size FMM method limitation.

The manufacturing company will use thin-film instead of glass encapsulation. Triplet OLED emitters will be used instead of doubles or singles.

Samsung is now busy with the construction of AMOLED plant 5.5-Gen. it is supposed to start productions from the mid of 2011. The company has planned to put in $2.2 billion on the plant which shall have 3 production lines.

The large wafer size will promote better efficiency in large as well as the small panels. For example 40 inches or 30 inches OLED TV panels. However the company did not specify if the advanced methods shall be applied in the new manufacturing plant or in the present one also.

Following the drastic improvement steps taken by Samsung, other companies are also following the suit.
