The arrival of the full size OLED TVs in the near future has been confirmed by the Vice President of Samsung Mobile Display, Brian Berkeley.
He said at the DisplaySearch conference that the company is focusing on HDTV Flat TV market. Samsung is working on the size of OLED TVs and trying to mass produce them.
Samsung Mobile Display was one of the pioneering companies to start producing OLED panels. Since 2008, Samsung has been manufacturing OLEDs for mobile displays. The Gen 4 plant of Samsung in Cheonan is a first of its kind.
Berkeley revealed that the company is making large investments in developing medium and large sized OLED TVs. The OLED technology has greater potential and allows the development of flexible and more eco-friendly panels. OLED also provides a good platform for developing 3D television devices.
The only reason Samsung is holding back the development of the OLED TVs is the high manufacturing cost. However, it is being predicted that OLED will become mainstream in 2010 and replace LCD TVs.
