Samsung gearing up for large panel AMOLEDs

We have heard reports that Samsung has now developed a new technology that will allow them to create larger AMOLED display panels from their existing 5.5 Gen production line.

Till now Samsung had to cut substrates to at least three parts and could create AMOLED panels up to 32 inch. Now it will be possible to cut substrates so that a single 65 inch AMOLED panel can be created. Samsung’s second 5.5 Gen production line will be used for this purpose and it is slated to start production in 2012.

In the second quarter of 2011 Samsung will start producing AMOLED panels in their A2 5.5 Gen line in Tangjeong. This line will produce AMOLEDs for small displays like mobile phones and cameras. The A3 line Tangjeong will be used for creating 65 inch panels.

Since the cost is high Samsung will probably produce large AMOLED panels only in 2013.
