Samsung Mobile Display improves quality of their AMOLEDs

Samsung Mobile Display has made plans for improvising the lifetime of the AMOLEDs and its white efficiency.

The company wants to double the AMOLED lifetime from 50.000 hours to 100.000 hours. The target for the white efficiency is 40 cd/A, which is double the current white efficiency of 20 cd/A. Samsung Mobile Display also plans to work on the power consumption levels from 62 watts to less than 30 watts.

The large screen size limitation that has cropped up due to the use of FMM method will be overcome by Samsung Mobile Display with the use of advanced color pattern method. The size of the screens might now increase from 30 inch to screens greater than 55 inch. For enabling mass production, the company is set to use Oxide substrate.

The current glass base encapsulation will also be replaced by the thin film method. All these improvisations will be seen in Samsung’s new 5.5 production line that is estimated to be ready by the first quarter of 2011. Mass production might start from July 2011.
