Samsung Plans Big on OLED


Unlike Sony, that is planning to stop the sale of OLED television in Japan, Samsung, the biggest electronic equipment manufacturer in the world, is planning to make it big in OLED technology.

Samsung is going to put in big bucks to commercialize OLED notebooks (coming in May 2010) and also to make available economical OLED panels.

The total amount of investment that Samsung is going to make is likely to be in the tune of € 866 million and the investment will focus on the new 5.5 generation line OLED panels. 1,320 X 1,500 mm OLED panels will roll out of the Samsung plant at Chungcheong.

Zhan Fu-chun of Institute for Information Industry Institute of intelligence has stated that the new line will include the more economical 32 in and 21.5 in OLED panels.

Moreover, sources say that May 2010 will see the commercial launch of Samsung’s new transparent AMOLED laptop. The product was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas.
