Samsung Electronics has now developed the first full color display where they have used Quantum dots.
This new technology is called QLED and the displays created using this technology are supposed to be cheaper, brighter and more energy efficient. The new Samsung display is 4 inches in size and is controlled by using Active Matrix. This means that each of the quantum dots in the display turn on and off with a thin film transistor.
As per Teo Ho Kim of Samsung, the QLED displays will only consume a fifth to a tenth of the power that an LCD display consumes. These displays are considered to be longer lasting and brighter than even OLEDs.
As for the manufacturing cost, it is predicted that the cost of producing a QLED display will be half of the cost of producing an OLED or an LCD display.
We will keep you further updated on this.
