Self-Powering Liquid OLED Screens

Research into the uses of OLED technology is resulting in more and more weird headlines. Today we talk about liquid OLED screens that could power themselves.

Liquid OLED Screens

If you aren’t satisfied with visions of the future that include wafer-thin phones and flexible screens, a couple of Japanese technology companies have just touched on an even more far-fetched possibility using OLED.

Research carried out by Sumitomo Chemical and Mitsubishi Chemical lies within the so-called ‘Spreadable Electronics’ field, i.e. liquids containing the molecules used in OLED screens.

This isn’t a new breakfast craze. The notion is that a liquid chemical can be painted or sprayed onto surfaces to create ultra thin OLED televisions. To make things even more out-of-this-world – researches have also hinted that it may be possible to make this liquid self powering.

That’s right, the liquid could also contain solar cells which create electricity from light to power the display. This magical molecular soup is another hot prospect for the future showing that OLED TVs are not the only use for OLED.
