Society for Information Display’s Display Week in Seattle featured OLEDs

This week, the Society for Information Display’s Display Week in Seattle featured OLEDs.

Sang-Soo Kim, Executive VP and CTO of Samsung Mobile Display gave the first keynote presentation and said that OLEDs are the future of display technology.

He projected 600 million units by 2015 and said that the number could even reach a billion. He talked about expanding from the present G4 to a G5.5 facility. He also talked about scaling to a G8 facility to produce 3D TV units that are 55 inches in diagonal.

But there was nothing on display at Samsung’s booth. LG also showcased only one 15 inch display that is based on RGBW architecture.

Barry Young, MD OLED Association, said that it was evident that the manufacturers are ready to make a push in the market but not ready to show their product plans right now.

There were other exhibitors who showcased their new OLED materials, equipment and manufacturing processes.
