Sony is set to launch the first professional HD camera to use an OLED screen viewfinder.

Sony is promoting the first ever colour professional camera viewfinder which is totally based on the organic light emitting diode technology, aka OLED. It is the Sony HDVF-EL100 model with an 11-inch OLED viewfinder.
Further it is the first non-consumer application that uses an OLED screen. We’ve already seen Sony’s 11-inch OLED TV which went on sale in the UK this year.
Sony says an OLED screen can offer great advantages when filming in high definition. The crisp and clear screen allows the camera user to accurately adjust contrast and colour levels while filming.
What the viewfinder does is rather unique, as it has a rugged design for the challenging environment which is typically encountered by the expert production crew. The pixel resolution of the camera is 960 by 540 and delivers around a wide viewing angle having a wide colour gamut along with an extremely fast response time.
This news shows that OLED will bring improvements to a wide range of products and not just OLED Televisions for our homes.
