Sony still shows no plan for OLED TV in India

As he unveiled the technologically advanced 11 inch OLED TV that is planned to be launched in Japan by the end of this year, Mr. Tamagawa mentioned that the Sony would invest Rs. 150 crore for channel and brand enhancement as well as consolidation of operations and tapping the rural Indian market.

However, Mr. Tamagawa didn’t talk about the price and time at which OLED TVs would be available in India. Sony operates in India through four companies, Sony Entertainment, Sony India, Sony-Ericsson and Sony BMG.

Sony India, the consumer electronics business, reported sales at Rs. 596 crore for Quarter I ended June 30, a 26% rise from Rs. 472 crore for the same period last fiscal.

Mr. Tamagawa confirmed that Indian growth would continue to be fueled by Vaio, Bravia, Cyber-Shot and handycam. He said Sony is looking for a 25% market share by selling 1 lakh LCD sets in the 32 inch category.
