Sony’s new stunning Rollable OLED Display

Sony stunned all at SID-2010 with its OTFT technology powered rollable OLED display.

As per Makoto Noda from Sony, this is a stunning technological improvement from the bendable display that Sony unveiled in SID-2009. When this new rollable display panel is folded, the curvature radius used is 3 mm and the change in carrier mobility is less than 5%. Hence, there is no effect on the image displayed on the panel.

The thickness of the panel is 80 um and it is due to the 20 um resin substrate at the bottom of the panel, 35 um organic TFTs and organic EL devices and 25 um resin cover at the top of the display panel. To check the effectiveness of the new technology, Sony rolled the showcased panel more than 100,000 times and there was no effect on the gamma characteristics and brightness.
