A new Ag-Sn nano-particle alloy has been manufactured by Sumitomo Cement Co Ltd. This dispersion light transmits 90% less visible light as compared to carbon black. It will be used in OLED or LCD panels to block light between the pixels. The dispersion liquid will be substituted for Black Matrix material.
Sumitomo Osaka Cement exhibited the Ag-Sn alloy at the 2009 International Nanotechnology Exhibition and Conference, which was held during 18th and 20th February, 2009 at Tokyo Big Sight.
The dispersion liquid has been specially manufactured by the dispersion of Ag-Sn alloy in water. These alloy particles have a diameter of 20 to 50 nm. the solution concentration can be controlled from 5 percent to 30 percent.
Sumitomo Osaka Cement presented a movie using their new dispersion liquid. It proved that the dispersion liquid could block visible light ten times more than films that are made with carbon black. The OLED viewing experience will be even better as the manufacturers start using this new material in their products.
