Toshiba has recently announced that it will put its focus on the present LCD technology instead of putting all their efforts on the mass production of OLED panels.
In his interview with the Nikkei Business Daily, Masahiro Kume, spokesman for Toshiba Mobile Display, mentioned that all the plans for the OLED panel production have now been put on hold. In fact, the entire plan is completely been scrapped. The company plans to review their OLED production plans right from square one.
It is worth noting that Panasonic and Toshiba jointly invested $197 million in 2008 for the sole purpose of building OLED panels for mobile phone displays. It remains to be seen how this new decision affects the plans for Toshiba to produce OLED TVs in the near future.
We will wait for some time to see what the company has in mind and whether they plan to start anew soon.
