Toshiba unveils a 3-inch OLED panel

There is no end to the innovations that are happening in the OLED space and the latest offering is from Toshiba.

Toshiba recently showcased a 3 inch OLED panel that is only 0.1 mm thick. This display has been built by Toshiba by attaching an oxide semiconductor TFT to a plastic substrate.

The plastic substrate also ensures that the device is absolutely lightweight. It, in fact, weighs 1 gm. The use of the plastic substrate is the primary reason why this new display is lighter and thinner than other flexible displays that are created using glass substrate.

It has been heard from Toshiba that this new display will be put through mass production somewhere in 2014 or 2015.

Sony also showcased a 13.3 inch flexible e-paper at SID 2011. They also used the plastic substrate in the creation the device and as a result, achieved the amazing thinness and lightness.
