Transparent Resin Electrodes Used for Making Flexible OLED Lamps

prototypeITO (Indium Tin Oxide) has been replaced by highly conductive transparent resin electrodes, Orgacon, to manufacture a 12 by 12 cm flexible OLED lighting panel prototype.

This flexible OLED lamp has been produced by Netherland’s TNO, Philips Research, Holst Centre, AGFA-Gevaert NV, and IMEC of Belgium.

The electrical conductivity of ITO in low temperature process was not enough. Orgacon, the new transparent resin, has high conductivity and is suitable for coating process. The European Union’s project called Fast2Light, which aims at producing flexible OLED lamps through printing process, has been supporting these companies in their work.

AGFA had manufactured Orgacon for using it in photographic films as a static protection material. Using this resin in printing process is easier. Orgacon is based on a conductive resin called PEDOT/PSS that is used in OLED devices.

Orgacon has 6 times the electrical conductivity of ITO. This OLED lighting panel uses metal foil substrate that enables it to be bent by hand.
